Course of the Month

November 2018

Zazenberk, Slovenia Slovenia

Zazenberk Pitch and Putt course is situated on the slope of a hill near Sveti Lovrenc and offers a beautiful view of the Lower Savinja Valley, that is the centre of the hop growing industry in Slovenia. The world's first beer fountain, the Fountain of the Green Gold, lies just 10 kilometres from the course.

The course is named after the former castle Zazenberk, which was above the course on the top of the hill. Its remains are still visible.

Currently the recently renovated course has six holes, but the whole estate measures five hectares, which allows ample room for expansion. In the next year another three holes are planned to enable Zazenberk become a 9-hole course.  All the greens and tees are artificial, made of HUXLEY material, imported from England.

The teeing ground on Zazenberk's opening hole is located near the clubhouse and the green stretches towards the valley at a distance of 81 metres. The green has a rectangular shape and is 100m2 in area.  Trouble in the shape of a large sand bunker lurks short and left of the green.

Hole no. 2 is 35 metres long and at first glance it looks very simple, but its green is in two levels with a slight slope towards the tee, so it can be very difficult to putt.

The pitch on the third hole is played from a tee, which is located overlooking the valley. 51 metres away, the green sits on the highest point of the course with a panoramic view stretching upwards. Green is elliptical in shape and 80m2 in size.

The tee on hole no. 4 is located at the bottom point of the whole course. The hole plays parallel to the hill towards the green with a view of the beautiful garden scalp at a distance of 71 metres. The 60m2 green is a round shape.

Hole number 5 is 34 metres long and is played slightly upwards on a rocky island with a green size of 60m2 and rectangular in shape.

Hole no. 6 presents a tee located at the top of the rock cliff overlooking the entire area of the Pitch and Putt course and the green stretches slightly upwards at a distance of 47 metres. Green is an elliptical shape of 50m2.

Zazenberk's practice putting green is located under the hayrack, which dates from the year 1805. Made of HUXLEY material from England, the putting green is 60m2 in size and has three holes.

The location of the Pitch and Putt course is a good starting point for hiking and mountain biking.

Club competitions and competitions of Pitch&Putt Association of Slovenia are taking place on this course and it is planned that Zazenberk will host the Slovenia vs. France in 2022.
