Pere Ferret Mirabent triumphs at Brdo

The II Slovenia Open was played at the Brdo course from 15-16 September 2018. The winner was Catalonia's Pere Ferret Mirabent. Pere scored 57 in Sunday's final round for a 54 hole aggregate of 174. That meant Pere triumphed by a single stroke from Galicia's Carlos Pena. Overnight leader Felix Eberle (Switzerland) carded 66 on Sunday to finish third on 177. Leading Slovenian player was Matjaz Slak, who ended up in fourth place on 182 after s closing round of 60. Carmen Casar (Galicia) won the ladies Open on the tiebreaker from Montserrat Moreno (Catalonia). The pair had tied on 209 but Carmen's Sunday 65 and better back nines gave the Galician the verdict. .Slovenia's Sabina Dietner was third on 215.

Swiss player Felix Eberle made a very significant move with a second round of level par 54. That gave Felix, who was fourth in the 2017 Swiss Trophy, a 36 hole total of 111, good enough for a six stroke lead heading into Sunday's final round. Closest pursuers were Jose Carlos Pena (Galicia) and Catalan Pere Ferret Mirabent, who both added 59s to their opening 58s. Bojan Mesec was the best placed Slovenian after scores of 60 and 63. Sabina Dietnar (Slovenia) led the ladies open by a shot from Montserrat Moreno (Catalonia).

Jozep Klancnik (Slovenia) and Felix Eberle (Switzerland) were tied for the first round lead. Klancnik, who represented Team Europe at the Fernando Trophy, and Eberle, who played for Switzerland in the 2016 World Cup, both scored 57 around Brdo. Klancnik and Eberle held a single stroke advantage over Jose Carlos Pena (Galicia) and Catalan Pere Ferret Mirabent. Montserrat Moreno (Catalonia) led the race for the ladies title on 64.

Afield of 72 players (from Slovenia, Galicia, Catalonia and Switzerland) have entered the Slovenia Open. Catalonia, Croatia and Slovenia will contest an international challenge on September 13th, in conjunction with the Open.
