Alex Albinana Torne wins by four

The 2018 Andorra Open was held at Xixerella from September 21-23, 2018. The Catalan hero of the European Team championship, Alex Albinana is now celebrating his first international open win. The youthful Albinana scored 53 on Sunday to post a five under par aggregate of 157 for 54 holes to win by four from a group of three on 161. Holder Toni Armengol (Andorra) carded a final round 53 for his 161 total. Toni took second on the tiebreaker from fellow Andorra Ricard Morat and Josep Martinez (Catalonia), who was second overnight. Gonzalo Mendoza (Andorra) returned 162 to take fifth place on the tiebreaker. Gloria Ruiz (Catalonia) retained the ladies Andorra Open title. Gloria's Sunday 59 saw her finish two strokes clear of Herma Kleinlugtenbeld with Soraya Lassal (Catalonia) third. Jordi Serra (Catalonia) also scored 162 and took over 55 laurels, ahead of Joan Valls (Andorra) and Carlos Millan (Catalonia).

Final Leaderboard

Young Alex Albinana fired a second round 51 for a 36 hole aggregate of four under 104. Albinana took a one stroke lead into Sunday's final round from fellow Catalan Josep Martinez. Martinez also scored 51 in the second round. Ricard Morat (Andorra) and Yann Le Tallec (France) were next best on 107 while 2017 winner Toni Armengol (Andorra) was tied on level par with fellow Andorran Gonzalo Mendoza. Gloria Ruiz (Catalonia) scored a fine second round 54 to lead the ladies event.

It was a very crowded leaderboard after the first round. Holder Toni Armengol (Andorra) scored a one under par 53 and Toni was joined on that score by fellow Andorrans Gonzalo Mendoza and Guillem Escabros along with Yann Le Tallec (France) and Catalan Alex Albinana.
