Best Player over the age of 60? - Amador Rodriguez

Amador Rodriguez travelled to Norway. by plane, with six other Catalan colleagues. Marc Bella (-9) ultimately finished 13th in the World Strokeplay championship at Imjelt; Raúl Fernández and Josep Iglesias (-8), 16th & 17th; John Frederick Evans (+1), 36th and Sergi Chaves and Àngel Navarro (+2), 38th & 39th.

The Catalans arrived late Wednesday and went to see the course. On Thursday they completed 2 or 3 practice rounds. The star performer of the Catalan contingent was Amador Rodriguez. The 63 year old arrived at Imjelt as the reigning World Seniors (over 55) Strokeplay champion and retained his title with a very impressive 72 hole aggregate of 201 (50+50+51+50). Amador was seventh overall.

Rodriguez enjoyed his final round with Irish stars Pacelli Darcy (Amador's principal competitor for the world seniors title) and Eamon Gibney (Ireland's winning World Cup captain in 2016). "Yes, I did enjoy it well. Imjelt is a course where I can achieve good results, and in the last round I had a chance to be (at least) third but, I was not very lucky."

Amador must be one of the best Pitch and Putt players in the world aged 60 or over. What’s his advice for people taking up Pitch and Putt at age 50 or older? "That it is a way to have fun, entertain and relax. The issue is to do it every day or five days a week and relax yourself."

Having finished just three out of the play-off, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Amador could you have won the overall event at the World Strokeplay. "I think so, because I played very consistently from tee to green, but the putter failed me a lot - about 12 times in  the 4 rounds!"

With wins now in Galicia, Norway and Catalonia, Amador clearly enjoys international Pitch and Putt? "Yes, I love the international and domestic competitions. That's why I go to pactice and play almost every day - 6 times a week. It's a sport that relaxes me and when I practice and play more and more I can get better results."

Long may this gentleman continue to enjoy our great sport.
