Tops at Quiberon - Yann Le Tallec (English and French)

Yann Le Tallec manages the Quiberon course and so was understandably busy before during and after the inaugural Brittany Open but he told fippa.org that he's cock-a-hoop to have captured the trophy. "I am proud to have won this open for various reasons. I did not have time to train before. The tournament started on Saturday and the course was buffeted by bad weather on  Friday with heavy rain and wind at 120 km per hour. We even had to hold the pre-tournament cocktail reception in a different place."

With the mark of a true champion, Yann is still seeking improvement. "Looking at my score in general I'm not happy because I think I can play better, particularly with the advantages of knowing the course . But it is true that organizing, having to look everywhere and monitor everything is difficult. Which makes the victory more beautiful."

Sunday's pairings at the I Breizh Open meant Yann was partnered by closest competitors Charlie Cloarec and Michel Espanol. Proximity to and familiarity with the opposition was a boost. "Playing with Charlie and Michel was nice because I know both players very well. It is true that at the previous international tournament (Catalonia) I finished as best French player so I was confident."

We wondered if Yann was satisfied with the number of entries from outside France and what was the reaction of those that did travel."The foreigners were very friendly and will come back next year. We bet the first tournament on friendliness and I think everything went well. Next year we would like to find another date to welcome more foreigners (particularly British and Irish)."

Looking ahead to Urduña and the 5 nations tournament, Yann reflected on the French success at El Pilar Sarria two years ago and on the prospects for Les Bleus in 2019. "We managed to win in 2017 (incredible memory) and we will try to fight to finish on the top step of the podium."

Yann is Dagenham bound in August. "Playing in the European Strokeplay is a beautiful adventure. I would like to finish in the top 10 but I am aware of the quality of the number of players. The most important thing is the enjoyment."

The Pitch and Putt odyssey of Yann and his cohorts will continue into the autumn. "We plan to go to Slovenia and Andorra in September and then Galicia in October for the European Clubs Cup with my club."

Question.
