AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2009
43 degrees greeted the players on Thursday for practice for the Open in Adelaide. However, the forecasted cool change arrived in the early hours of Friday morning much to the delight of all players, and gentle rain fell during Saturday morning's round. What a relief, but it did not change the greens. They remained fast but true as reflected in some scores.
James Rogerson showed his determination, leading from start to finish, equalling the course record with a 49 in the third round and setting a new 72 hole record of 12 under 204.
Simon Owen continued on his merry way, holding on to second place again, while Stewart Genge managed to get out of the hole he dug for himself with a first round 63. Hilton Ludekens made short work of the hole in one prize at the 16th, picking up the money in the second round.
In the interests of fair play, the ladies played this event in 2 divisions, and in the interests of fair play a B division player would lead the field through the halfway mark by 2 clear shots, Liz Kneebone would go on to finish third overall with a score of 258, equal with Joanna Molloy of Queensland and 4 shots behind the eventual winner June Drury from Canberra on 254.
Players and officials moved to the Para Hills Community Club for a 7.30pm presentation dinner.
