III WORLD CUP DETAILS
Ireland won the 2008 World Cup of Pitch and Putt at Papendal, near Arnhem, the Netherlands on Saturday 18 October. Leading the host nation by 1.5 matches to 0.5 after the opening round of one foursome and one singles, Ireland garnered 2.5 points out of the three afternoon singles to win 4-1 overall. Star of the tournament Paul O'Brien (Lakeside) beat Jan Tijhuis 4&3. Derek Courtney (Glenville) birdied two of the last three holes to edge out Dutch star Patrick Luning while Ray Murphy gave a generous half to Rolf Kwant with the overall result decided. Catalonia finished third with Great Britain fourth.
Patrick Luning (Netherlands) recorded an impressive 93 to be the leading scorer in the Strokeplay qualifying round while Ireland's captain on the course Ray Murphy was next on 97. Fair play award of the tournanent went to the ebullient Aussie Stewart Genge.
Wednesday 15 October - Am-Am Team Event. 1 player from each of the 18 teams playing a Texas Scramble Team format with celebrities and corporate teams - 2.30 p.m.. Opening Cermony wlll take place on Wednesday evening at 6.00 p.m.
Thursday 16 October - 36 hole Strokeplay Qualifying Round for World Cup from 9.00 a.m.; Matchplay Opening Round in the afternoon.
Friday 17 October - Matchplay Rounds from 8.00 a.m.
Saturday 18 October - Finals from 9.00 a.m.
