Pilar Montero - Triumph over adversity
Pilar Montero has been experiencing some health problems but they have not quelled her love for Pitch and Putt and her capacity to win! After her amazing feat at Ringcommons, Ireland by winning the WPPT Ladies event (and her own trophy!), Pilar spoke (in Spanish, Catalan and English) to fippa.org.

Muchas felicidades por tu victoria en Ring Commons en el Masters de Irlanda ¿Estás muy contenta por ganar?
Si muy contenta porque el campo era muy técnico.
¿Cómo está tu salud en este momento?
Valorando en la situación que me encuentro de tratamiento con quimioterapia debido a un cáncer de mama, estoy muy feliz de poder competir, pero hay días complicados.
¿Se te conoce por jugar hasta 400 torneos al año? ¿Cómo es posible conservar un entusiasmo tan fenomenal por el Pitch and Putt después de todos estos años?
En mis mejores momentos he llegado a jugar 3 competiciones en distintos campos en un dia y 2 competiciones diarias muchas veces.
Por lo mucho que me gusta este deporte y por la gran cantidad de amigos que tengo en el Pitch and Putt lo considero mi segunda casa.
¿Tus impresiones de Sarah O'Neill y Patsy Quinlan?
Excelentes jugadores y muy respetuosos. Tuve la suerte de ganar no por ser mejor pero si por tener más experiencias en competiciones de este tipo.
¿Te gustó el campo Ring Commons?
Si me gusta mucho aunque es totalmente diferente a los nuestros, greens pequeños con muchos desniveles y siempre protegidos por algun obstáculo.
¿Debe sentirse muy honrada de que el WPPT haya nombrado el Trofeo Femenino en su honor?
Si me siento muy orgullosa y doy gracias a todo el comité de la WPPT por llevar mi nombre la competición femenina en este Circuito.
¿Cuáles son sus ambiciones restantes en Pitch and Putt?
Seguir compitiendo mientras pueda y entrenar a diario para mejorar si es posible

En els meus millors moments he arribat a jugar 3 competicions a diferents camps en un dia i 2 competicions diàries moltes vegades.
Per molt que m'agrada aquest esport i per la gran quantitat d'amics que tinc al Pitch and Putt ho considero la meva segona casa.
Les teves impressions de Sarah O'Neill i Patsy Quinlan?
Excel·lents jugadors i molt respectuosos. Vaig tenir la sort de guanyar no per ser millor, però si per tenir més experiències en competicions d'aquest tipus.
Et va agradar el camp Ring Commons?
Si m'agrada molt encara que és totalment diferent dels nostres, greens petits amb molts desnivells i sempre protegits per algun obstacle.
S'ha de sentir molt honrada que el WPPT hagi nomenat el Trofeu Femení en honor seu?
Si em sento molt orgullosa i dono gràcies a tot el comitè de la WPPT per portar el meu nom a la competició femenina en aquest Circuit.
Quines són les seves ambicions restants a Pitch and Putt?
Seguir competint mentre pugui i entrenar diàriament per millorar si és possible.

Many congratulations on your win at Ring Commons in the Ireland Masters? How pleased are you to win?
Thank you, I feel very happy because the course was very technical.
How is your health at the moment?
Considering the situation I find myself in with chemotherapy treatment due to breast cancer, I am very happy to be able to compete, but there are difficult days.
You have been known to play up to 400 tournaments a year? How do you retain such a phenomenal enthusiasm for Pitch and Putt after all the years?
In my best moments I have played three competitions on different courses in one day and two competitions a day many times.
Because of how much I like this sport and because of the large number of friends I have in Pitch and Putt, I consider it my second home.
Your impressions of Sarah O'Neill and Patsy Quinlan?
Excellent players and very respectful. I was lucky to win not because I was better but because I had more experience in competitions of this type.
Did you like the Ring Commons course?
I do like it a lot although it is totally different from ours, small greens with many slopes and always protected by some obstacle.
You must be very honoured that WPPT named the Ladies Trophy in your honour?
Yes, I feel very honoured and I thank the entire WPPT committee for associating me with the women's competition on this Circuit in this manner.
What are your remaining ambitions at Pitch and Putt?
Continue competing as long as you can and train daily to improve, if possible.
