CATALAN OPEN - LIAM O'DONOVAN DOMINATES
Lleida hosted the IX Catalan Open on 18/19 April. Irishman Liam O'Donovan won the event for the second time, Trailing by two shots overnight, O'Donovan fired a 47 on Sunday for a 20 under par 54 hole aggregate of 142. That gave the 2013 Catalan Open winner a four shot winning margin over his fellow Co. Limerick native Kieran Earls. Earls, who was also involved at the business end of the 2014 Catalan Open, scored 48 on Sunday for his 146 total. That gave Earls second place on the tiebreaker from Catalan coach Xavi Ponsdomenech. Xavi led after two rounds but could only add a 53 on Sunday. Two other former international Open winners, Marcal More (3 times Catalan Open victor) and Enric Sanz, finished on 147, Enric's Sunday 50 clinching 4th slot on the countback.
Pacelli Darcy (Ireland) finished in the top 10 overall and his 12 under par 150 return left another Limerick player a 4 shot victor in the Senior (Over 55) Open. Andorra's Pepe Garcia was second on 154. Esther de Schiffart (Holland) returned 55 on Sunday for a winning ladies aggregate of one over par 163. That was two shots clear of Catalonia's Abby Nachshon, who returned 52 on Sunday for a 165 total. Overnight leader Marilyn Holmes (Catalonia) finished third, also on 165 after a Sunday 60.
