European Team Championship 2010

Catalonia won the European Team championship for the first time at Lloret Papalus. In bright sunshine, The Catalans claimed four of the six singles to defeat holders Ireland by 5 matches to 4. Ireland led by two matches to one after the morning foursomes but singles victories by Enric Sanz, Fernando Cano, Paco Salido and Jordi Saborit left the Catalans celebrating a famous win, their first over Ireland in four European Team championship finals. Holland beat Great Britain in the third place play-off. The remaining places were filled by Andorra (5th), Norway (6th), Switzerland (7th) and Germany (8th)

Ireland, Great Britain, Catalonia and Holland reached the semi-finals of the 6th European Team Championship at Lloret Papalus . Ireland completed their win over Germany by nine matches to nil. The holders faced Great Britain, who reversed the seedings with a countback victory over the Andorrans. Host Catalonia will play Holland for a place in the Sunday final.

Ireland qualified as top seeds for the quarterfinals by winning the Strokeplay qualifiing round on 30 under par. Ray Murphy shot the leading score of the qualifier with a brilliant 96 (49, 47) for the 36 holes.
