Ambleside is a town in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically within the county of Westmorland, it is situated at the head of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake. The town is within the Lake District National Park. Ambleside is the gateway to all that the Lake District has to offer, including hill walking and adventure sports.
Right in the centre of town is White Platts Recreation Ground, at Compston Road, Ambleside. This is an extensive recreation area run by Lakes Parish Council in association with Horton Leisure Management.
Within White Platts Recreation Ground itself, the 9 hole Pitch and Putt course is laid out close to the bustling, busy road through this thriving tourist town.
An relatively flat, enjoyable course which mainly attracts recreational players, Ambleside could be likened to St. Andrew's, surrounded as it is by the attractive buildings of the old town.
Refreshments are available and clubs may be hired.
Course opening times are: April-May 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; June-August 9.30 a.m.- 8 p.m. and September 10 a.m.- 6.30 p.m.
The fifth at Ambleside plays to the maximum FIPPA distance of 90 metres, while the remaining holes are in the 40 to 60 metre range, with small greens.
The course is commonly held to be the best Pitch and Putt layout in the Lake District.
In addition to Pitch and Putt, visitors to White Platts Recreation Ground can enjoy Crown Green Bowling, Putting Green, French Boules, Tennis and Crazy Golf. There's also a Children's Play Area and ample seating for picnics.
The course is quite literally in the centre of town
