Butler Park, Texas, USA
A beautiful green space in the middle of a large and growing city, Butler Park Pitch and Putt is a legendary landmark in Austin, Texas. It's a nine hole course near downtown Austin, the Hike and Bike Trail, and Lady Bird Lake. This is a course for everyone, from the beginner to the seasoned player. Butler Park features large, shady pecan trees, water and grass traps, challenging holes, a very diverse clientèle (children and pets always welcome) and friendly and helpful employees.
This utterly laid-back and informal layout boasts a longest hole of 106 metres and a shortest of 55. Butler Park's greens and fairways have taught players a thing or two since 1949. In the clubhouse you can rent clubs and after the round refresh with some soft drinks. There is no dress code. The course is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. onwards and at weekends from 8:30 a.m. onwards.
Butler Park is reckoned by locals and visitors alike to be one of a kind, best in class.
World-class professional golfers like Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Rik Massengale, and others (mostly alumni of the University of Texas) can attest to the character of this small but wonderful course. It is fun, yet challenging.
This is the second Pitch and Putt course that two-time Masters champion and former Ryder Cup captain Ben Crenshaw has been associated with. Ben co-designed our July 2012 Course of the Month, Bandon Preserve, with Bill Coore.
Designed by Winston Kinser, Butler Park features 730 metres of Pitch and Putt from the back tees for a par of 27, with a course rating of 35.5 and a slope rating of 113. Continuing the family tradition, Lee Kinser manages the course as the General Manager.
