Just four kilometres from our August 2012 Course of the Month Inniskeen, lies another Irish rural gem. Channonrock Pitch & Putt course is situated near Conlon's Pub in Channonrock County Louth, just over the county bounds from Co. Monaghan. Channonrock course is just off the main Dundalk to Carrickmacross road (R178). Just ten kilometres from Dundalk at Channonrock junction, there is easy access to the course from the M1 motorway.
Channonrock welcomes family and society outings, There is a good selection of food available in Cluskey's restaurant nearby. Channonrock accepts green fees and is open from dawn to dusk from spring to late summer. Visitors are assured of a warm, hospitable welcome from Club Secretary Mary Conlon of Conlon's Pub. Channonrock is a challenging 18 hole holer with a wide variety of teeshots to elevated greens. The shortest hole plays 30 metres to an elevated green while a 66 metre downhill pitch is the longest.
Channonrock's first hole is no easy opener. Rated Index 7, it is a relatively flat pitch across the bottom of the course but it's a solid 65 metre hit. Index 8 hole is No. 18. The home hole plays 50 metres downhill to a smallish green.
Although a relatively small club members-wise (at just over 70 - 15 ladies, 32 men, 23 boys, 3 girls), Channonrock boasts some dedicated mentors and really quality players, particularly among the youthful fraternity.
Channonrock player Shane Redmond has won the 2010 and 2012 Irish Under 16 national strokeplay, a championship won by his club colleague Declan Byrne in 2005.
Brendan Lawlor (Channonrock) recently became the youngest ever winner of the Leinster intermediate strokeplay championship.
