Course of the Month

November 2014

Engi, Switzerland Switzerland

The alpine 9 holes Engi course is situated in the oldest wildlife reserve in Europe, Kärpf, right on the historical General Suvorov trail. The course is set in picturesque surroundings and boasts a panoramic view over the idyllic village, surrounded by the majestic mount Klärnisch and the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Sardona mountain with the world famous Martin's hole.

Pitch & Putt Golf Engi is a member of the Swiss Pitch & Putt Association (SPPA). The course was built in 2007 by club members with the assistance of SPPA. In recent years, the club growth is relatively large members-wise with more than 200 members, but with the purpose that Pitch & Putt is a "play and pay" game, members have the choice to join the SPPA or not. Only 18 players enrolled in the SPPA, among them some really quality players. 3 members of Engi were selected to represent Switzerland at the European Team Championship in Andorra.

The season runs from early May until the end of October, depending on the weather. Holes measure between 45 and 70 metres. A precise game is required with Out of Bounds coming into play on seven holes and due to the small greens.

The signature hole number 1, the shortest hole but lined with Out of Bounds on both sides, will test the 1st tee nerves even of the most experienced players. The test presented by the longest hole, number 3, has been made even more challenging by placing four rocks on the fairway and a huge gaping front bunker close to the green. The 4th at 55 metres is not long but it's a tricky assignment with Out of Bounds on the right of and behind the tiny green. There is a large sensitive area between the fairways of the 5th and 6th holes and the 6th and 8th fairways border the Suvorov way (Out of Bounds). The 9th hole shouldn't cause too much trouble despite the small green.

In 2014 the practice facility has been expanded so that visitors, members and players can practice on a big putting and chipping green.

The annual program is very interesting and extensive. There are regularly basic courses, events and workshops for associations and companies. The senior club boasts an important support. The Juvenile program is very active and provides weekly training with Sport teachers.

Pitch and Putt Golf Engi is a popular meeting place in an intact alpine environment where the clubhouse, shared with the local Ski Club, invites the visitor to relax in a pleasant atmosphere and welcomes families and society outings. The course is easily accessible by private car or bus. Parking is available nearby, less than 5 minutes walk from the course.
