Course of the Month

June 2024

Las Palmeras, Spain Spain

Designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin, Las Palmeras is the first urban Pitch and Putt course in the Canary Islands, situate within the city boundaries of capital Las Palmas.

Comprising 18 holes, and located just 30 minutes frm the airport, it contains a total area of approximately 80,000 square metres, with individual holes between 40 and 120 metres.

Adjacent to Las Canteras beach in north-east Gran Canaria and commanding views of the Atlantic Ocean, Las Palmeras course is constructed on what was once a rubbish dump.

Opened in 2006, the course has two quite different nines, on the one hand the first nine holes with a purely British physiognomy and modelled on famous holes; and on the other, a design similar to that of the American courses, among them the emblematic Index 5 75 metre 15th hole with an island green. Water is a regular hazard on the back nine.

The 53 metre third is considered the easiest hole at Las Palmeras while the maximum distance 14th is rated the most difficult. Trees and Out of Bounds lurk on the right of the third while sand awaits to the left of the green. The tee shot on 14 must be flighted over a pond and avoid sand traps, front right and back left.

Hole No. 4 'Vero', which runs parallel to Doctor Negrín Hospital, is dedicated to Verónica Carballo González, a lovely woman who battled cancer and a close friend of the course architects Stirling and Martin. Five sand bunkers dot this 70 metre test.

Other facilities at Las Palmeras include: illuminated driving range (48 bays), putting green, Club Rental, Restaurants, toy library, spa, Gym, Pro Shop, Hair salon and six Padel courts.
