Established in 1977, Oldcastle Pitch and Putt club is laid out in the grounds of Gilson Park, which is also home to the Oldcastle Agricultural show. That's one of the longest established farm fairs in the region.
The Pitch and Putt course opens gently with a 49 metre test over a front grass bank. The index 3 66 metre 2nd challenges the best as does the 52 metre uphill 7th.
The 4th measures just 41 metres but the index 5 8th stretches to a searching 55 metres.
Characteristic of Oldcastle are some strategically placed trees such as the one adjoining the 14th tee, where the pitch must fly downhill over a front grass bank.
Number 17 is rated index 10 and plays 52 metres downhill. The slightly downhill 18th (54 metres) is protected by Out of Bounds left while the home hole is foreshortened by a large grass bank fronting the green.
Oldcastle is hailed as a welcoming and vibrant club that offers a range of membership options and green fees for players of all ages. It is commended for being a community-oriented club that prides itself on providing a friendly and inclusive environment for players of all levels. It regularly hosts major county and provincial championships.
Oldcastle course features a significant number of round greens such as the putting surface at the downhill 11th, which is ringed with grass banks. Many of the greens are flat but with subtle rolls.
Green fee players are welcome to Oldcastle except when an open event is scheduled.
