Course of the Month

November 2020

Phillip Island, Australia Australia

Phillip Island is an Australian island about 140 km. (87 miles) southeast of Melbourne, Victoria.

A popular day trip from Melbourne, lying just off Australia’s southern coast, Phillip Island features a superb Pitch and Putt course, which forms part of the Aussie Golf Ranch complex.

Measuring just under 350 metres for the nine holes, Phillip Island (at 627a Settlement Road, Cowes, VIC 3922) is a flat and short but tricky links style course with fast sloping greens.

Rated Index 9, the 22 metres 6th is the shortest hole on the course while the Index 1 54 metre 9th is the longest.

Phillip Island has 23 acres of coastal dunes with access to Red Rocks Bay, a north facing secluded sandy beach, located just 100 metres from onsite apartment-style accommodation. The Pitch and Putt club is perched at the Ventnor end of Settlement Road. Despite its diminutive nature, the course can present quite a challenge due to the westerly and south-westerly winds which blow across the course.

Golf pros Stuart Appleby and Lindsey Wright have used the impressive facilities.

Constructed by Crowley Excavations, the course features Santa Anna Couch - an original USA hybrid couch grass. Clubs may be hired and there is a practice putting green.
