Catalan International Pairs 2015
Victory for Oriol Mas and Marcal More...
Oriol Mas and Marcal More of Catalonia shot a fourballs score of 47 on Sunday at Lloret Papulus to win the III International Open Pairs. That seven under par Sunday return overhauled the overnight lead of Ireland Chris Scannell and Weeshie Murphy and gave the Catalan combination a two shot win. Mas and More finished with a 54 hole aggregate of 17 under par 145. Scannell and Murphy scored 147 after their 50 on Sunday at Lloret. Catalans Fidel Soler and Sergi Arisa were next on 150 just ahead on the tie breaker (a final round 47) of event host Xavi Ponsdemench and his playing partner Borja Ramon. Holders Liam O'Donovan and Pacelli Darcy (Ireland) finished fifth on 151 (after a slow start on Saturday) courtesy of a Sunday fourball 47.
A greensomes score of 46 and a foursomes return of 51 left Irishmen Chris Scannell and Weeshie Murphy in the overnight lead on eleven under par at Lloret Papulus. Scannell and Murphy led by just a single stroke from the Catalan combination of Oriol Mas and Marcal More. Just a further shot behind was an intriguing pairing of Dani Coleman (Catalonia) and Colin Somers (Ireland). Coleman and Somers produced the second lowest foursomes return of the Saturday play (50) to lie poised on 9 under par. Also in touch on eight under were Tommy Hanley & Mark Ryan (Ireland) alongside Catalans Rafel Ramos & Xavier Creus (who were the only team to break 50 in the foursomes). Gonzalo Mendoza and Toni Armengol of Andorra were just another shot back.
