British Open 2016

Great day for the Deebles...

John Deeble (Britain) won the British Open in Dagenham by three shots from Ireland's Eamon Gibney. John Deeble closed with a 49 on Sunday for a 12 under par 150 aggregate.  Eamon Gibney added an international open 2nd slot to previous 1st and 3rd placings with a final round 53 for 153.  Three more Irishmen finished on 156.  Ian Dillon placed third (with a 48 on the back 18 tiebreaker), Liam O'Donovan fourth (51) and Darren Keogh fifth (52).

Steve Deeble (Britain) won a playoff in senior against Ireland's Dennis Monaghan. The pair had tied on one under 161.  Ireland's Sean Minogue was third (163). Mary Murray won the ladies open from fellow Irish players Marian Courtney and Eleanor Walsh. Mary shot 56 on Sunday for a 54 hole tally of 165, four clear of Marian and six ahead of Eleanor.  Jordan Deeble was best junior.

Huge credit is due to the BPPA for the superb manner in which this event was conducted.

With two rounds complete in Dagenham, it was still very close in the British Open between Eamon Gibney (Ireland) and Britain's John Deeble.  Eamon was eight under par after a 2nd round 51 and led by one from the home player.  Only four other players were under par - Darren Keogh (Ireland) on 104 and Irish Strokeplay champion Liam O'Donovan with 105.  Next best were two seniors - Ireland's Dennis Monaghan (105) and Britain's Steve Deeble (106) Ireland's Mary Murray maintained her two stroke advantage in the ladies after a second 18 56.  Fellow Irish player Eleanor Walsh was well placed on 111,  

Ireland's Eamon Gibney led the British Open after round one. Eamon shot 49 at Dagenham to lead a field of 100. John Deeble (Britain) was on 50, one ahead of Ireland's Darren Keogh. Mary Murray (Ireland) shot 53 to lead the ladies event. Esther De Schiffart and Eleanor Walsh were joint second on 55. Leading seniors were Dennis Monaghan (Ireland) with 53, home player Steve Deeble and Irishman Sean Minogue both on 55.  

Ireland's John Ross Crangle was a 3&2 winner over fellow Irishman Darren Keogh in the final of the Matchplay event held on the eve of the British Open.  64 players contested the event at Central Park, Dagenham. Weather conditions were blustery and occasionally wet as a recent heatwave in London came to an end.  John Ross Crangle beat Anthony Gibney (Ireland) while Darren Keogh defeated Britain's Daniel Landers in the semi finals.

 

Sunday 8.30 start then every 5 minutes after that. Reverse order, highest 36 hole totals out first. Leaders expected to be out around 11.30 with a prize giving at 14:00 (estimated).
