Gonzalo Mendoza and Pau Perez retain title

Gonzalo Mendoza and Pau Perez (Andorra) retained their Andorra International Open Pairs title with a brilliant final fourball round of 46 at Xixerella. The holders posted an overall 54 hole aggregate of 15 under par 147, which ensured a one stroke victory over Josep Iglesias and Angel Navarro from Catalonia and Andorrans Ricard Morat and Javier Cayetano. Overnight leaders Carles and Jose Perez finished fourth on 150.

The event, the first FIPPA competition of the Covid-19 interrupted 2020 season, was a resounding success. Maria Martinez and Purificacio Montana (Catalonia) captured the Best Ladies award with 179 while a tally of 170 clinched Best Mixed laurels for Maria Escudero and Victor Rodriguez (Galicia). Nett winners were Alba Alos and Sergi Alos (Catalonia).

Andorra pair Carles and Jose Perez led by two overnight. Carles and Jose added a 50 in greensomes at Xixerella after their foursomes 49 at Ordino to lead by two strokes on 9 under par 99 from Josep Iglesias and Angel Navarro (Catalonia) and holders Pau Perez and Gonzalo Mendoza (Andorra). Two more Andorra pairings were in challenging positions - Ricard Morat & Javier Cayetono with six under along with the Armengols, Toni and Ramon on 103. Full 36 hole leaderboard here.

The final round of fourballs was played on Sunday morning. 8.00 a.m. pairings here and 11.30 draw here.

Andorra pairs Carles & Jose Perez and defending champions Pau Perez and Gonzalo Mendoza led by one after foursomes first round play. The two Andorra pairs scored 49s at Ordino to lead by a single stroke from Josep Iglesias and Angel Navarro (Catalonia). On 52 were John Frederick Evans and Jose Maria Alcantara (Catalonia). The Armengols, Toni and Ramon from Andorra, were next on 53.
