Andorra Open 2021

Josep Iglesias victorious in play-off

Catalonia's Josep Iglesias won the X Andorra Open, which was played at the Vall d'Ordino course from September 18th/19th 2021. Josep holed a very long putt on the final green of a play-off with fellow Catalan Barry Coomber, the 2019 champion, after the pair had tied on 147 for the 54-hole tournament. Joel Girbau (Catalonia) filled third place with a 14 under par aggregate of 148, two strokes clear of another Catalan and former World Senior Strokeplay champion Amador Rodriguez. Fifth was Roger Albinana (Catalonia)  on 151.

Soraya Lassal (Catalonia) retained her Andorra Ladies Open title, shooting a final tally of 161, which proved five better than Herma Kleinlugtenbeld (Netherlands). The evergreen Pilar Montero (Catalonia) secured third place on 174. Amador Rodriguez was awarded top senior prize, one clear of Josep Ramon Portell (Catalonia) and two better than Jose Perez (Catalonia). Top juvenile was Hugo Fernandez (Andorra) with 173.

It's a second win in Andorra in 2021 for Josep Iglesias who earlier clinched the Andorra International Pairs alongside Angel Navarro.

The Open was severely disrupted by adverse weather on Saturday. Only half the field were able to complete the scheduled 36 holes and the Saturday afternoon flight returned to complete their second round on Sunday morning. Sunday tee times were based on the first round scores.

Roger Albinana (Catalonia) carded the best opening 18 hole score - a six under par 48. Albinana led by a single stroke at that stage from fellow Catalans Josep Miralpeix and Barry Coomber. Leading home player was Arnaud Mur, who was bracketed on 50 alongside Catalans Amador Rodriguez and Jose Manel Crespo. Holder Soraya Lassal (Catalonia) was an impressive ladies leader on 51.  That was six clear of Herma Kleinlugtenbeld (Netherlands) and Catalan Laura Sanchez.
