Rodriguez and Mervin win play-off

Galicians Victor Rodriguez and Peter Mervin Henry emerged victorious after a five hole sudden death play-off for the II Ourense International Pairs tournament, which was played from May 21-22, 2022. Teo Fernandez & Antonio Sánchez (Galicia) conjured up a phenomenal 41 in the final round (Chapman Greensomes format) at Ourense to force that play-off (after a tie on 28 under par 134) with Rodriguez and Mervin who scored 47 on Sunday.

Moises Iriarte and Alejandro Fernandez (Galicia) took third place on -26 after their 46 final round. Two more Galician combinations grabbed fourth and fifth places. Tomas Escarda and Daniel Fuentes signed for 25 under while Angel Caneiro and Roberto Garcia were next on 143. Toni Armengol and Josep Escabros (Andorra) provedthe best non-Galicia pair on 147 while Galicians Nacho Prada and Teresa Gonzalez topped the Mixed Category on -9.

Victor Rodriguez and Peter Mervin Henry took a three stroke lead into the final round A superb 43 in the Fourball at Ourense gave Rodriguez and Mervin a 36-hole aggregate of 21 under par 87. Moises Iriarte and Alejandro Fernandez (Galicia) were second on 90 (47+43). Tomas Escarda and Daniel Fuentes (Galicia) were next, another two strokes back. Toni Armengol and Josep Escabros (Andorra) were still the best non-Galicia pair on -10 while Galicians Nacho Prada and Teresa Gonzalez continued to lead the Mixed Category on eight under par.

Sunday tee times

Victor Rodriguez and Peter Mervin Henry carded a brilliant 44 to lead after the first round. Victor and Peter held a three stroke lead following the Greensomes at Pazo do Lago from another two Galician pairings - Tomas Escarda and Daniel Fuentes along with Moises Iriarte and Alejandro Fernandez. Best non Galicia team comprised Andorrans Toni Armengol and Josep Escabros who are on 5 under par. Best Mixed Pair was Nacho Prada and Teresa Gonzalez (Galicia) on 50. Saturday afternoon play (Fourball) is at Ourense.

Greensomes were played at Pozo do Lago on Saturday morning. Players then moved to Ourense for the Saturday afternoon Fourball. The final round (Chapman Greensomes) was contested at Ourense on Sunday.

Pairs from Galicia, Andorra, Basque, Catalonia and Ireland participated.
