Fountainstown plan to reaffiliate

Moves to revitalise brthplace of modern day competitive Pitch and Putt

Commonly regarded as the birthplace of modern day competitive Pitch and Putt, Fountainstown club has applied to reaffiliate to Pitch and Putt Ireland,

Situated in south east Co. Cork, Fountainstown was a nine-hole course originally built in the 1930s.

Great enjoyment was had by holidaymakers at the course, which opened in 1937.

Cork city dwellers returned home and were inspired to build courses of their own like Altona, Collins, Millfield, Woodvale and others.

As the sport thrived during the war years, modern day competitive Pitch and Putt was born.

Interest in the sport in Fountainstown gradually declined and the club ceased its affiliation to Pitch and Putt Ireland in the 1970s. We are delighted to announce that an enthusiastic and energetic new Committee plan to reaffiliate the club to Pitch and Putt Ireland and have ambitious plans for Pitch and Putt in the area.
