World Senior Strokeplay championship

Teo Fernandez and Eleanor Walsh triumph

The II World Senior (Over 55) Strokeplay championship was played at the Tambre course in Galicia from June 28/29, 2025.

Teodoro Fernandez (Galicia) earned a prestigious victory in searingly hot conditions. Teo finished with a 54 on Sunday for 150 (-12) and won by two from fellow Galician Jorge Sarmiento who was round in 52 on Sunday. Holder Amador Rodriguez (Catalonia) delivered a noble defence of his title in third place on 154 after a Sunday 54.

Ireland’s Eleanor Walsh dominated the ladies championship from start to finish, firing eighteens of 49, 54 and 57 for a three under par aggregate of 159 and a seventeen shot win. Dutch lady Herma Kleinlugtenbeld shot a final round of 55 to add to her earlier 59+62 for second spot with 176. Eleanor Walsh’s Irish colleague, Breda White scored 61, 54 and 61 also for 176 in third place on the tiebreaker.

Teo Fernandez (Galicia) fashioned fantastic rounds of 46 and 50 to take a four stroke lead into Sunday's final round. Joint second were former champion Amador Rodriguez (Catalonia) and Galician Jorge Sarmiento. Eleanor Walsh signed for rounds of 49 and 54, which was good enough for fourth overall and gave he Irish lady a very healthy lead in the ladies section.

After the opening round of 18 holes, Teo Fernandez (Galicia) and Eleanor Walsh (Ireland) were the overall and ladies leaders on -8 and -5 respectively,
