Nacho Prada International Pairs

Victory for Josep Iglesias Miralpeix and Joel Girbau

On September 29, 30 and October 1, the third staging of the Galician (Nacho Prada) International Pairs tournament iswas held in Pozo do Lago and P&P Ourense. Scores  here

Josep Iglesias Miralpeix and Joel Girbau (Catalonia) earned victory by a narrow margin after a superb 46 in the final round Chapman Greensomes. Miralpeix and Girbau posted a 54 hole total of 15 under par 147, which was marginally superior to Andorrans Toni Armengol and Josep Escabros who signed for the same aggregate but scored 48 on Sunday. Overnight leaders Jorge Rodriguez Sarmiento and Dario Conde (Galicia) carded 49 final round for third place on 148.

Catalans Alberto Alcaraz and Begona Conde were unstoppable in the mixed competition, shooting 45 inFourball and 47 in Greesomes and seven under par overall to win by eight from Galicians Juan Carlos Dopazo and Pilar Rodriguez.  scored 163 ifinishing in second position behind , with the Galicians being leaders after the difficult foursome. Daniel Fuentes and Rosana Murias (Galicia) finished in third position.

A brilliant 45 in the afternoon saw Jorge Rodriguez Sarmiento and Dario Conde post a nine under par overnight aggregate of 99. The Galician pair were tied after 36 holes with Josep Escabros and Toni Armengol (Andorra) who added a 47 in the fourball to their opening 52. Two other pairs scored 47 on Saturday afternoon and they both started from 101 on Sunday in the Greensomes- Victor Rodriguez and Mervin Henry (Galicia) and Josep Iglesias and Joel Girbau (Catalonia). They were joined on that mark by Catalans Angel Navaaroo and Jordi Costa who scored 48 in the fourball. Sunday tee times

Andorrans Josep Escabros and Toni Armengol scored 52 in Foursomes to take the first round lead.

On Friday, a pre-tournament 6-hole match play competition was played with the presence of 76 players The final classification was:
1st Teo Fernandez-Antonio Sanchez (Gal)
2nd David Rodriguez-Juan Carlos Rodriguez (Gal)
3rd Josep Miralpeix - Joel Girbau (Cat)
4th Josema Iglesias - Candela Rodriguez (Gal)

As a tribute to Nacho Prada, this important competition has been renamed the NACHO PRADA INTERNATIONAL PAIRS as a memory of our estmeed player and colleague who left us this year.

The competition is part of the FIPPA calendar and the AGPPA hope that it will continue to consolidate as one of the important events on the international calendar.
