European Seniors Strokeplay Championship

Rolf Kwant is the champion

The European Seniors Championship 2022 (7th to 9th October 2022) was played at the P&P HCP1 course in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres.

A brilliant final round of 46 saw Rolf Kwant claim the title. The Dutch ace signed for an overall total of 16 under par 146 and triumphed by three over World Over 55 Strokeplay champion Amador Rodriguez (Catalonia). Amador scored 50 on Sunday and finished one ahead of compatriot Isidire Garrido. Dennis Monaghan (Ireland) and Joan Bertran (Catalonia) were fourth and fifth respectively on 151.

Encarnaci Robledo closed with 56 to earn a four stroke ladies victory over fellow Catalan Pilar Montero. Super Senior champion is Gregori Lopez (Catalonia) on 157 after a Sunday 52. Gregori finished four ahead of Francesc Xavier Creus.

Final Leaderboard

Christophe Sauvaire (France) produced a second successive score of 49 to take a one stroke lead into the final round on Sunday. Sauvaire sat on 10 under par 98 and the Frenchman's closest pursuer was Amador Rodriguez (Catalonia) who was round in 50 on Saturday. After consecutive eighteens of 50, Dutchman Rolf Kwant was one of a group of three on 100, which also included opening round leaders Isidire Garrido and Joan Bertran, who posted second day returns of 51 apiece. 

Encarnaci Robledo (Catalonia) continued to lead the ladies championship on 110 ahead of compatriot Pilar Montero after both players scored 56 on Saturday. Catalan Gregori Lopez held a four stroke 36-hole lead in the Super Seniors seniors category. Lopez posted a stunning second round of 49 and was four clear of fellow Catalan Joan Jordi Roura. 

Leaderboard and Sunday Tee Times

Christophe Sauvaire (France) and three Catalans, Isidire Garrido, Joan Bertran and Amador Rodriguez all scored five under par 49s to lead after Friday's first round. Just one stroke behind on 50 were Dutchman Rolf Kwant along with the Catalan pair Josep Martinez and 2009 World Strokeplay kingpin Fernando Cano. Encarnaci Robledo (Catalonia) led the ladies on level par 54, ahead of compatriot Pilar Montero on 56.
