SWISS INTERNATIONAL OPEN

SPPA forced to cancel the event

I SWISS INTERNATIONAL OPEN - ST. MORITZ JUNE 2011

Unfortunately, the SPPA has been forced to cancel the proposed Swiss Open, scheduled for 24th - 26th June 2011 due to lack of international support. Only 7 non-Swiss players had entered by the extended closing date.

The Swiss Pitch and Putt Association (SPPA) announced the details of such a tournament early, simply because St. Moritz is such a wonderful location and a prestigious and hugely popular tourist destination; the course is open for only a few months of the year, and the hotel accommodation is very much in demand. SPPA had succeeded in arranging special prices in a number of hotels.

In order to guarantee the SPPA's offer (agreed tariffs with the course and hoteliers), prospective participants were asked - categorically - to announce their intention to participate as early as possible (entry deadline was extended to 30 April 2011).

If well supported by international players, the I. Swiss International Open would have been a huge boost for the promotion and development of our sport in Switzerland.

Member associations were asked to do their utmost to promote this first Swiss Open among clubs and players as soon as possible, circulating the poster to clubs and posting the details on the websites.
