Joep Van Mourik R.I.P.

Sad loss of a Dutch stalwart

The Pitch and Putt community in the Netherlands and worldwide is mourning the death of former EPPA and FIPPA Board Member Joep Van Mourik (RIP).

Deeply involved with Dutch Pitch and Putt from its beginnings in the 1990s, Joep served the NPPB and later PPBN, loyally and capably, in many capacities.

An enthusiastic player, Joep was Dutch Senior Matchplay champion in 2009 and 2012 Dutch Senior Strokeplay champion.

Joep acted as a referee at some tournaments and was an integral part of the Organisational Committees for the 2014 World Strokeplay Championship and the 2015 European Strokeplay championship.

A member of the Leeuwarden club, Joep was also Honorary Member of his original club Koekange, honoured for his distinguished service.

Joep was an inspiring and astute non-playing captain of various Dutch National teams including the sides that contested the 2003 European Team Championship at McDonagh and the 2008 World Cup at Papendal.

Always cognisant of the role that Willie Parker played in the development of Pitch and Putt in the Netherlands, Joep was particularly proud to lead the Dutch in the 2008 Willie Parker Challenge Cup (Ireland v. Netherlands international match) at R.G.S.C. (Dublin).

Joep travelled extensively in the cause of Pitch and Putt and finished 3rd in the 2010 Swiss Senior Open.

A popular figure wherever he went, Joep will be sorely missed.

Sincere condolences are extended to Joep’s family and friends.
