Tom Drury

100 not out for Canberra International legend

Underlining once again the fact that Pitch and Putt is a sport for all ages is the story reaching us from Australia that Pitch and Putt has another centenarian.

The Canberra International club are obviously particularly proud of club member Tom Drury who celebrated his 100th Birthday on 14 November 2022. Canberra International threw a early Birthday bash for Tom on Saturday 12th November with early morning tea and cake in the clubhouse. It was the first of several celebrations as family and friends help Tom mark this major milestone.

Less than two years ago, on New Year's Eve 2020 to be exact, Tom won the Nett at Canberra International's Club championship, aged just 98! Tom fired a 53 gross, 49 Nett off -4 handicap and triumphed by a single stroke from Tony Heinrich with Tony Dorrell another two strokes behind in third spot.

Up to recently, Tom teed it up at Canberra International two or three times a week. It has been extremely wet in Canberra this year and, unfortunately, Tom has not played much given the conditions the weather has thrown up. However, he hopes to be back in action when conditions are less slippery.

A model railway enthusiast in addition to his devotion to Pitch and Putt, Tom grew up in Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom before moving to Australia.

Congratulations, Tom from all at FIPPA and continue to enjoy our great sport of Pitch and Putt.
