Dinny Hill - WPPT Over-55 glory for Offaly and host club stalwart
The John Manning Trophy, presented to the top Over-55 player at each WPPT event, was claimed at Tullamore by staunch local member Dinny Hill, Hill signed for 145 (48, 47, 48) and finished in 6th place overall
A stalwart of the Tullamore club for decades, Dinny is a polished performer on the course and has regularly represented Offaly in Inter-County championships, helping his beoved Faithful County to 3rd place in the 2024 Eamonn Birchall Trophy at Bagenalstown 2024, having collected a bronze medal in the 2018 Leinster Inter-County.
Club Chairman of Tullamore from 2021 to date, Dinny gets involved in all manner of activities including repair work on the 6th and 17th greens following vandalism in recent years.
Tullamore and neighbouring club Erry have their own version of the Ryder Cup. That's been going for nearly twenty years and Dinny Hill has played a prominent part as a leading member of Tullamore's team.
Club Strokeplay runner-up in 2017, 2021 and 2022, Dinny claimed the Club Matchplay championship in 2016 and 2021 and was runner-up in 2022
Hill has a particular aptitide for Scratch Cups, especially those honouring Tullamore legends of the past. Offaly County Board Senior Scratch Cup winner in 2023, Dinny finished as Joe Pyke Masters runner-up in 2021 and 2022.
Dinny won Dick Abraham Scratch Cup Final 18 in 2023 having been third overall four years earlier and lifted Vinny Murphy Scratch Cup Last 18 earlier this season.
He also claimed Last 18 prize in the 2024 Sonny Heeney Scratch Cup at nearby Rochfortbridge.
A regular qualifier in major Pitch and Putt Ireland championships, Dinny reached the 2024 Leinster Matchplay semi-finals.
Perhaps his most notworthy achievement is that having been 1990 Offaly Strokeplay champion, Dinny became County Strokeplay champion again 30 years later in 2020.
