Nacho Prada - Pitch and Putt Versatility (English and Spanish)
We were interested in Nacho's Prada's choice of partner for the 2022 Ourense Pairs. Last year Nacho played with Jose Antonio Carvalajes in the Absolut category and achieved second place. Why did he change this year? "This year my partner was injured with back problems, explains Nacho, "so I decided to play the mixed with Teresa (Gonzalez). She started to play Pitch and Putt the same day as me, in 2014, so it was a good opportunity to see our evolution in these eight years!"
Does Nacho play regularly as a partner with Teresa? "Yes, the truth is that my usual partner is Carvajales, but in team and club competitions it is usual for Teresa and me to play together."
Nacho and Teresa combined very well to shoot 153 and win the Mixed Category at the 2022 Pairs - which demonstrates how well they navigated the two courses – Ourense and Pozo do Lago. "Ourense is my usual course, so I know it well, "reflects Nacho. "Normally, I don't play at Pozo do Lago more than a couple of times a year. It is curious that we had our best result there, perhaps playing more focused."
The Galician duo enjoyed a pretty comfortable winning margin, (primarily gained during the Greensomes format, in which they signed for a fine 50. Another Galician team Pilar Rodriguez and Juan Carlos Do Pazo achieved a hole-in-one in that format and ultimately finished second in the Mixed category
"The first round meant a great effort of concentration," asserts Nacho, "as it was the most difficult format and on a course where we don't usually play and also a trickier layout. Right through to the middle of the second round in the Fourball we also played well, since we accumulated -8 in 27 holes."
Which format of play did they find most difficult – Greensomes, Fourball or Chapman? "Of these three formats, the Greensome is always more difficult and surprisingly it was when we played the best. Then our game was not quite as good as we lacked concentration," Nacho admits. "As we had the results on a virtual card on the phone, we could follow the results live and perhaps seeing that we maintained a considerable advantage over the next couple, our concentration level dropped and hence our inferior level of play in the second part of the Fourball and in the Chapman."
Did Nacho's tactics change this year – playing in the Mixed Category rather than the Absolut Category? "Foursome and Greensome are formats that demand the most from you and your partner. Concentration, trust and a good connection in the couple are essential. And we achieved that in Pozo do Lago, which, in the end, gave us victory in the category."
Did the Mixed Win in 2022 or the 2nd place in Absolut (2021) give him the most satisfaction? "I couldn't tell you which one was more exciting. Second place last year was very difficult and hard work, playing at a high level."
Does he hope to make the Galicia team for the 5 Nations? "We are contesting a ranking that will decide the eight places for the Galician team. My position is good for now but I won't know until the end of June."
Will Nacho and Teresa play in other international pairs events as a team? "This year, except for local or regional competitions, we will not compete outside Galicia. Maybe next year."

El año pasado jugaste con Jose Antonio Carvalajes en la categoría Absolut. ¿Por qué cambiaste este año?
Este año mi compañero estaba lesionado con problemas de espalda, así que decidí jugar el mixto. Teresa empezó a jugar al pitch el mismo día que yo, en el año 2014, así que era una buena oportunidad para ver nuestra evolución en estos 8 años.
¿Juegas habitualmente en pareja con Teresa?
Si, la verdad es que mi compañero habitual es Carvajales, pero en competiciones de equipos y de club es habitual que juguemos juntos Teresa y yo.
Qué tan bien conocen los dos campos: Ourense y Pozo do Lago?
El campo de ourense es mi campo habitual, así que lo conozco bien. En Pozo do Lago no suelo jugar más que un par de veces al año. Es curioso que allí hiciésemos nuestro mejor resultado, quizás jugando más concentrados.
¿Disfrutaste de un margen de victoria bastante cómodo (ganado principalmente durante el formato Greensomes, incluso Pilar y Juan Carlos lograron un hoyo en uno en ese formato)?
La primera vuelta supuso un gran esfuerzo de concentración, por ser la más difícil y en un campo donde no solemos jugar y también más complicado. Hasta mitad de la segunda vuelta en el Fourball también jugamos bien, ya que acumulábamos -8 en 27 hoyos. Luego nuestro juego no fue tan bueno y nos falto concentración.
¿Cambiaron sus tácticas este año, jugando en la Categoría Mixta en lugar de la Categoría Absoluta?
Mi intención siempre fue la de disputar el torneo con mi compañero, pero como comentaba, las circunstancias me llevaron por optar a mixtas donde también podíamos hacer un buen papel.
¿Qué formato de juego le resultó más difícil: Greensomes, Fourball o Chapman?
Siempre el Greensome, de estas tres modalidades, supone una mayor dificultad y sorprendentemente fue cuando mejor jugamos. Como llevábamos los resultados en una tarjeta virtual en el teléfono podíamos seguir los resultados en directo y quizás al ver que manteníamos ventaja sobre la siguiente pareja nuestra concentración bajó y de ahí el peor nivel de juego en la segunda parte del Fourball y en el Chapman.
¿En qué formato produjo la mejor actuación? (¿Probablemente Greensomes?)
Foursome y Greensome son modalidades que exigen de ti y de tu compañero el máximo. Concentración, confianza y una buena conexión en la pareja. Y eso lo logramos en Pozo do Lago, lo que al final nos dio la victoria en la categoría.
El Mixed Win en 2022 o el 2do lugar en Absolut (2021) te dieron la mayor satisfacción?
No sabría decirte cual que hizo más ilusión. El segundo puesto del año pasado fue muy difícil y trabajado, jugando a un gran nivel.
¿Esperas formar parte de la selección gallega para el 5 Naciones?
Estamos disputando un ranking que definirá las 8 plazas para el equipo gallego. Mi posición es buena por ahora pero hasta final de junio no lo sabré.
¿Usted y Teresa jugarán en otros eventos internacionales de Parejas como equipo?
Este año en principio salvo competiciones locales o regionales no competiremos fuera de Galicia. Quizás el año que viene.
