Pilar Montero - Good things come to those who wait
Pilar Montero had been previously placed five times at the Catalan Ladies Open without ever tasting ultimate victory. Having been third in 2004, 2008, 2013 and in 2014 and runner-up four years ago, that all changed at Roc 3 in April. Pilar finally became a Catalan Open champion at the tenth attempt when she won a play-off with Dutch player Esther de Schiffart at the fifth extra hole. The pair had tied on 165 for the 54 holes.
Pilar Montero was born at Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid in the 1950s. But it is in Catalonia and on the Pitch and Putt courses of the world that she has found fame and fortune.
?A member of Vallromanes Pitch and Putt course, Pilar is the player who has won the Ladies Championship of Catalonia the most times. Pilar won nine championships (1997-2003, 2008 and 2009). She was four times a member of Vallromanes champion of Catalonia teams (1997, 2000, 2001, 2003). She was considered good enough to participate with the Catalan team in the inaugural European Championship (Chelmsford 1999). She won her singles matches against France and Italy in that championship. Moreover,she was selected four times for the European International Ladies Team Challenge (2000, 2003, 2005 and 2007) and won the title with the Catalonia team in 2009. Pilar has amassed more than 3,000 trophies in her stellar career, among them the World Championship (2005). Pilar plays Pitch and Putt every day and she knows all areas of Catalonia.
Sota Par published its first issue in February 1999. 17 years later Sota Par remains the top Pitch and Putt magazine of Pitch and Putt in Catalonia. In those 17 years, Sota Par has organized a circuit of all Pitch and Putt courses in Catalonia, known amongst players for family atmosphere, good prizes and large group travel. Pilar has been the number one scratch player on the Sota Par Circuit in 2004, 2005, 2009, 2014 and 2015. She has also won the women's category in 2007, 2010 and 2012 among many other accomplishments.
Crowned Catalan Ladies Seniors champion in 2014 at Castello Empuriabrava and in 2015 at Mas Pages, Pilar is an eight time winner of the Catalan Ladies Ranking (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2014).
Pilar's other international Pitch and Putt Open victories have come in Chile (2010) and in Andorra (2013). She is the fifth most successful player in international open history (with 14 podium finishes since 2000). And she shows no signs of slowing down!
