Marta Cucurull - currently No. 1 Catalan lady
Marta Cucurull practices Pitch and Putt every single day. And that practice is certainly paying off, as witnessed by the imperious performance of one of Catalonia's leading international players in the 2026 Catalan Open.
Winner of the Open at Vallromanes by an impressive nine strokes, it wasn't all plain sailing for Marta. "The truth is that on the first day, when we played the first two rounds, I wasn't swinging very well," was her post-play assessment.
She still signed for a two under par tally of 106 and a five stroke overnight lead. "I had to save a lot of pars and chip a lot, but I liked that feeling of fighting it, because I had to fight a lot and I liked it."
Saturday had set Marta up for a serene final tour of the Vallromanes track and so it proved. "On Sunday, in the last round, I felt much more comfortable, I was very calm, which I appreciate very much, and I simply fought to continue maintaining an advantage that gave me this calmness and that's it. It went very well and I'm very happy."
Marta's Pitch and Putt career graph has been showing very steady progress. Having lost on the countback to Encarnacion Robledo at Lloret in the 2022 Catalan Open after a tie on 174, Marta claimed the 2023 WPPT Catalan Ladies Master title and the Pilar Montero Trophy at Lleida. After that triumph, she recorded this tribute to a lady who has had a positive impact on all Catalan lady players. "Pilar Montero has been a great influence in women's Pitch and Putt during her long career. She has been and continues to be a great player with an impressive record, but also a defender, passionate and promoter of this beautiful sport. She loves Pitch and Putt like no one else and has shown it throughout her career."
