Soraya Lassal and Josep Ramon - Continued impressive record at Catalan International Pairs

The Catalan International Pairs record of Soraya Lassal and Josep Ramon is nothing short of impressive.

Since 2019, the Catalan couple has won twice and never finished lower than third in the Mixed category of the popular Sant Cebria event.

Soraya and Josep first teamed-up up six years ago and scored rounds of 49 (Greensomes), 55 (Foursomes) and 44 (Fourball) for a fourteen under par aggregate of 148.

That was good enough for a six stroke winning margin over runners-up Gloria Ruiz (Catalonia) and Ricky Morat (Andorra).

Josep and Soraya replicated that scintillating final round of 44 in the 2024 Fourball to recover a three stroke overnight deficit and win for a second time.

The Lassal and Ramon 2024 total of 15 under par 147 was their best ever in the tournament and secured a one shot victory over the 36-hole leaders, Ailish and David Sexton (Ireland).

They might have been celebrating a third win but for a relatively modest final Fourball round of 52 when leading overnight in 2021, which allowed Dutch pair Esther de Schiffart and Maurits Rangkouw to catch them and win on the countback  after a tie on 157.

Soraya and Josep were third in 2022, scoring 50+52+51 for 153, behind Marilyn Holmes (Catalonia) and Denis O’Sullivan (Ireland) who signed for 147 and Catalans Maria Isabel Vidal and Javier Rodriguez (151).

Fellow Catalans Marta Cucurull and Pau Folguera were in devastating form in 2023, winning with 145 (-17) but Lassal and Ramon played steadily on Saturday and cut loose on Sunday with a brilliant Fourball 45 for 150 overall.

Soraya and Josep finished 9th in the overall classification this year having been 11th in 2019. Their average overall classification across the five stagings since 2019 (the event was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic) is 22nd.

Greensomes have been very fruitful for Lassal and Ramon at Sant Cebria. Their best Greesomes card was a 48 in 2021 and overall they are nineteen par for the modified alternate shot format (251 for the five rounds, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).

Their low Foursomes score, a 51 was achieved last month at Sant Cebria. Their only two over par returns have been in Foursomes but cumulatively they are still marginally under par – 268 (-2).

Like most pairs, they have scored lowest in Fourball Better Ball, with 44 being achieved twice, in their winning years of 2019 and 2024. Their overall 90-hole Fourball aggregate is 236 (-34).

This year’s three round tally of 147 was their best to date, narrowly eclipsing the 148 of five years ago. Their average 54-hole score is fractionally under 151 and 56 under par overall.

Two wins, two seconds and one third. Remarkable consistency.
