Celebrations continue in Galicia, winners of the 5 Nations tournament for the first time ever. Here's a small insight into those celebrations.
How pleased are you to win the 5 Nations tournament for the first time?
The players really enjoyed the victory, since for a small association like Galicia, beating an ocean liner like Catalonia is very important
What form did the celebrations take?
Quiet, but everyone is very happy
Did you practice a lot as a team in advance?
Personally, I cannot train as much as I would like, but the team had a good preparation.
Do you all know the Ourense course well?
Without a doubt, this course, more similar to the Irish, helped us to equalize the level with Catalonia.
You must have been quite encouraged after the Strokeplay round (to finish so close to Catalonia)?
Losing the strokeplay round by a single stroke made us believe that we could fight for the title with Catalonia, especially after the practice round on Friday, in which the difference was 10 strokes.

Could you tell us about those matches?
From our point of view, the key was in the foursome game in which Peter and Alejandro beat the best Catalan players by five. That gave us morale and made our rivals have more respect for us
Another aspect that we talked about before starting the competition was to play with maximum concentration so as not to lose any points against other rivals. Tthe team complied with that and we won all the games by at least two holes ahead. Catalonia lost half a point against France and that gave us the victory..
Did the electrical storm help you or hinder you?
It hurt us because we expected a large attendance by the public. With the storm everything was delayed and we lost fans who would help us with their encouragement
When will preparations for the title defence in 2023 commence?
In January we will start with the qualifying tests, to try to retain the title in Catalonia, although we know that it will be very difficult

Los jugadores disfrutaron mucho con la victoria, ya que para una asociación pequeña como la de Galicia, ganar a un trasatlántico como Cataluña es muy importante
¿Qué forma tomaron las celebraciones?
Tranquilas, pero todos muy contentos
¿Practicasteis mucho como equipo por adelantado?
Personalmente yo no puede entrenar todo lo que quisiera, pero el equipo hizo una buena preparación
¿Todos conocéis bien el campo de Ourense?
Sin lugar a dudas este campo, más parecido a los irlandeses nos ayudó a igualar el nivel con Cataluña
¿Debes haber estado bastante animado después de la ronda de Strokeplay (para terminar tan cerca de Cataluña)?
El perder la ronda strokeplay por un solo golpe nos hizo creer que podíamos pelear el título a Cataluña, sobre todo después de la ronda de entrenamiento del viernes, en la que la diferencia estuvo en los 10 golpes

¿Podría hablarnos de esos partidos?
Desde nuestro punto de vista la clave estuvo en la partida foursome en la que Peter y Alejandro ganaron por 5 a los mejores jugadores catalanes, eso nos dió moral e hizo que nuestros rivales nos tuvieran más respeto
Otro aspecto que hablamos antes de empezar la competición era jugar con la máxima concentración para no perder ningún punto contra otros rivales, ahí el equipo cumplió y ganamos todas las partidas por al menos dos hoyos de ventaja. Cataluña perdió 1/2 punto contra Francia y eso nos dió la victoria..
¿La tormenta eléctrica lo ayudó o lo obstaculizó?
Nos perjudicó porque la afluencia de público prevista era muy grande, y con la tormenta todo se retrasó y perdimos aficionados que nos ayudarían con sus ánimos
¿Cuándo comenzarán los preparativos para la defensa del título en 2023?
En enero empezaremos con las pruebas de clasificación, para intentar en Cataluña renovar el título, aunque sabemos que será muy difícil
