Mark Millar wins at Puerto Velero
The IV Chile Open has taken place during the weekend of 17th/18th March 2018. The event was played at Puerto Velero, Chile in conjunction with the inaugural Fernando Morgado Trophy.
Mark Millar (Ireland) won the Chilean Open with a 36 hole aggregate of 108 (54+54). Millar finished two shots ahead of Eamon Gibney (Ireland) who fired 53 in the final round. Irish Matchplay champion John Ross Crangle was third on 113, one clear of Ian Farrelly (Ireland). Catalans Manuel Amor (joint captain of Europe) and David Solé were next best on 115. Pilar Montero returned 127 to win the ladies open. Cristobal Andrade was best placed home player, scoring 117.

Team Europe's joint captain Mark Millar led after the opening round at Puerto Velero. The reigning Irish Strokeplay champion from the Cement club in Drogheda, Co. Louth scored 54 and was one stroke clear of fellow Irishman Ian Farrelly. Another Irish player John Ross Crangle carded 56. Joint fourth on 57 were David Solé (Catalonia) and Ireland's Eamon Gibney. Top Chilean was Cristobal Andrade on 58 while Pilar Montero (Catalonia) fired 66 to lead the ladies tournament. .

All participating players compete for the Open. Players participating in the Fernando Morgado Trophy must complete the 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday even when they have lost their match.

The trophy honours the late Dr. Fernando Morgado, the Chilean who founded Pitch and Putt in South America. The IV Chile Open will also take place during the weekend.
South American Pitch and Putt is on the crest of a wave. Argentina, Chile and Ecuador contested the recent inaugural South American Team Championship, while contacts are developing in Brazil, Colombia and Peru.

The Open will be held at the Puerto Velero course in Northern Chile. View a video of the course here.
It will be staged in conjunction with the proposed new Fernando Morgado Trophy, which will be contested by teams of 12 representing South America and Europe.
Intending travellers can pose any logistical other questions here.
The Chile Open was last held in 2016 at Colegio di Medico and was won by Alejandro Moraga.
- Price of registration for the competition is €80*. This includes:
- The Green fees for the competition and practice days.
- Return Transfer in a minibus / van from La Serena Airport
- Use of the shuttle inside the Puerto Velero resort as a means of transporting the players between the apartments and the course and vice versa.
- Use of the shuttle once in the afternoon / night for those who want to visit La Serena (Restaurants, Casino, etc.)
- Lunch lunch Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Club House.
- Dinner, with Chilean folklore performance on Saturday
- Farewell food with the closing ceremony
- In apartments with bathroom, kitchenette and refrigerator. Double rooms, at € 23.33 per person / night i.e. €140 of total price for 3 nights / 2 people.
- Possibility of preparing a continental breakfast at the apartments for the players / persons accompanying.
- Optional dinners at restaurants or at Club House (menu €15)
- Any other expenses not mentioned in the first paragraph
- Prices are quoted in local currency at today's exchange rate and may have slight variations in March
- Players may arrive up to two days before Thursday and may remain until Sunday night at the same price per room per day, but the costs of greenfees and other expenses that they may incur will be for their own account, except for airport transfers .
- the price of the rooms per person / night is calculated for full occupancy.
