VI World Cup

Irish retain World Cup

The VI World Cup of Pitch and Putt (and the first to be staged since 2016) was played at the El Vendrell course, Tarragona, Catalonia from 11th/13th October 2024. Holders Ireland retained the Cup when Kieran Earls secured the point needed in a 4&3 afternoon singles success over Pablo Ferreira. The other two afternoon singles were conceded by North Portugal. Catalonia claimed third place with a 4.5 to 0.5 verdict against Galicia. Full details here.

Ireland led 2-0 against North Portugal in Round One of the final. Damien Fleming & Kieran Earls holed a birdie on the final green to beat Hugo Espirito Santo & Pedro Ferreira 1 up while Ian Dillon was a 4&2 winner against Tomas Ribeiro in a high-quality match. Catalonia were 2-0 up on Galicia in the 3rd/4th place match.

Semi-finals results:: Ireland 4. Galicia 1; North Portugal 3 Catalonia 2.

Quarter-final results: Ireland 4 Switzerland 1; North Portugal 3 Netherlands 2; Catalonia 4 Andorra 1; France 2.5 Galicia 2.5, Galicia won sudden death play-off.

Ieland led Switzerland 2-0 overnight in the quarter-finals. It was North Portugal 2 Netherlands 0 Catalonia 2 Andorra 0 and France 1.5 Galicia 0.5. The quarterfinals concluded on Saturday morning. Score updates here.

Holders Ireland earned a top seeding for the Matchplay stages, scoring 19 under par 251 for the five counting Strokeplay rounds. Ireland faced eighth seed Switzerland in the quarter=finals. Second seed North Portugal scored -16 and faced the Netherlands. Hosts Catalonia scored -14 to be third seeds and drew Andorra. Fourth seed Galicia took on France. Full Strokeplay details here

Ireland led on 10 under par after the opening round. Catalonia were second with North Portugal third.

The World Cup was previously played in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2016. The 2020 event did not take place due to the Covid pandemic.

The competition is for teams of three players. At the beginning of the competition, two individual rounds of strokeplay are played, which decide the seedings for team matches played in Matchplay mode.

In 2006 Catalonia already hosted the World Cup in Teià with a high level of sport and a large audience.

The Organizing Committee of the World Cup24 has worked on the preparation of the most important team competition in the world of Pitch and Putt.
